The World Drags Me Down

The Cult
"She Sells Sanctuary"
Listen | Buy

NOTES: I couldn't decide between this song and a selection by the Sisters of Mercy for my Phonic Phriday entry on Looking Good, so I posted the Sisters over there and saved the Cult for this site. I used to have a massively big crush on bassist Jamie Stewart (here he is on the right), while my best friend Linda drooled over guitarist Billy Duffy (on the left in that photo). Well, before she realized she was a lesbian.

Oh the heads that turn
Make my back burn
And those heads that turn
Make my back, make my back burn

The sparkle in your eyes
Keeps me alive
And the sparkle in your eyes
Keeps me alive, keeps me alive

The world
And the world turns around
The world and the world
The world drags me down

[OK, I'm not going to transcribe this whole song, because the lyrics are totally repetitive. And a little ... yeah. I think the music is what makes this song so good.]

I got caught speeding for the first time while listening to She Sells Sanctuary.

Caught for doing 92 in a 55 zone.

"I'm going to write it up for 72 mph because you're young and stupid."

Now I'm not young.

Hahahahaha!

Great anecdote, Phildozer! I literally did laugh out loud when I read that. I've gotten a few in the 80s range in 55 zones, but not that lofty speed. In Michigan, or at least where I lived, I'd probably have been taking a ride in for reckless driving.

I have been nailed for 90, but that was a 65 zone.

Those were over 15 years ago. My old beater isn't one for speed. I guess I'm safe that way.

Love the story.
